Feto-maternal outcome in early-term, full-term, late-term and post-term pregnancies at a tertiary centre in India

Background: The risk of perinatal complications does not remain consistent over the 5-week period between 37-42 weeks taken as ‘term pregnancy’. American college obstetrics and gynecology (ACOG) has further classified this into early-term (37-38+6 weeks), Full-term (39-40+6 weeks) late-term (41-41+6 besides post-term (>42 weeks). present study evaluates feto-maternal outcomes in deliveries at various term gestations per new classification Indian settings. Methods: This is a retrospective record-based women delivering tertiary care medical hospital central India 1st January 2014 31st December 2017. Low spontaneous with confirmed gestational age 37 completed or more, single fetus vertex presentation were analyzed. Those incomplete records such preeclampsia, diabetes mellitus, heart disease, antepartum hemorrhage, etc. excluded. Results: Out 1498 case-records that satisfied criteria, 722 (48.2%) early (ET); 690 (46.1%) full (FT); 76 (5%) late (LT) 10 (0.7%) post (PT). A significantly higher proportion who delivered from rural area, lacked institutional antenatal visits had lesser formal education. Caesarean section (CS) rate was PT group (60%) compared to groups ET (40.9%), FT (39.7%), LT (39.5%). also meconium-stained liquor (MSL), APGAR<7 still birth rate. maternal fetal parameters different ET, except weight (BW). Conclusions: pregnancies have MSL, birth, APGAR <7, delivery by CS. Women education, those areas received are more likely report PT. Larger studies our settings needed evaluate compare gestations.
